Policy 03

Accessibility

“Good communication only works when people can access and understand it.”

Accessibility is part of our visual communication practice, not an optional finishing touch. We aim to make our workplace, website and communications accessible, and to remove barriers wherever it’s reasonable to do so.

At a glance

The short version.

1

WCAG 2.2 AA as our benchmark

Our normal standard for new web work, and a practical reference for other digital content.

2

Honest claims only

We won’t say something is fully compliant unless it’s been tested enough to back that up.

3

Reasonable adjustments

For employees, applicants, visitors, placement students and people at our events.

WCAG 2.2Level AA for new web work
Equality Act2010, including the duty to make reasonable adjustments

In practice

What we commit to.

  • Logical headings and meaningful page titles
  • Keyboard-friendly navigation and visible focus states where the platform allows
  • Good colour contrast, and never colour alone to carry meaning
  • Meaningful alt text for informative images
  • Layouts that work with zoom and on small screens
  • No uncontrollable flashing, autoplay or motion that creates a barrier
  • Captions, transcripts or alternatives for important video and audio

The detail

Everything else.

The key parts of the policy, in plain English. The downloadable PDF is the full, controlled version.

Creative production and client work

When accessibility is part of the brief, we plan it from the concept stage, agreeing captions, transcripts, audio description, contrast, reading order and accessible players at project set-up. If accessible versions are requested later, we’ll work constructively to provide them, subject to feasibility and scope.

Reasonable adjustments

Requests are considered individually and respectfully, and may cover working arrangements, equipment, communication formats, physical access, recruitment and events.

How we test

Keyboard testing, zoom and responsive checks, automated checks where useful, manual review of headings, labels and alt text, specialist or screen-reader testing where proportionate, and feedback from people with lived experience where available.

Ownership

The Website Owner keeps this statement accurate; producers agree accessibility requirements within client projects; designers and web content staff receive proportionate guidance.

Continuous improvement

Accessibility isn’t a one-off certificate. We review new components, templates and production processes and improve them when we find barriers.
