Navigating Our Animation Odyssey: How Walt Disney's Wisdom Shaped Carse & Waterman
As we eagerly prepare to host our 100 Years of Disney anniversary screening next week, we find ourselves reflecting on the profound influence Disney has had on our company's journey. From the timeless Animation Principles crafted by the legendary 9 Old Men to Disney's remarkable legacy and extensive catalog that continues to inspire countless individuals drawn to the world of animation. In this retrospective exploration, we center our focus on a poignant quote from Walt Disney himself, a sentiment that encapsulates the heart of our creative pursuit.
Right in the heart of Shelton, Stoke-on-Trent, our thrilling adventure with Carse & Waterman Productions began in June 2009. Who could have guessed that a single quote would become our guiding light, showing us the way through the ever-changing world of animation?
Daniel Waterman, one of the creative minds behind Carse & Waterman, fondly recalls the words of Walt Disney: "Animation can explain whatever the mind of man can conceive. This facility makes it the most versatile and explicit means of communication yet devised for quick mass appreciation." Little did we know that these simple words would steer our animation journey in unexpected ways.
At the start, we were all about making films and TV stuff, especially for folks in London. Our knack for eye-catching visuals and weaving stories was our forte. But then, as we were on the lookout for our niche, a wonderful realisation hit us – Story-Driven, Cinematic Animated Communications. It was like a lightbulb moment. Walt Disney's wisdom acted as a spark, making us see that animation was way more than just fun and games. We saw it in action with the charming "Bare and Hare Christmas" ad by John Lewis. As a Midlands Animation Studio rooted in Stoke and Staffordshire, we sensed a chance to create something truly special and close to home.
Stepping into the world of Animated Communications brought about a transformation in us. What started as a curiosity soon turned into a clear mission – using the power of animation in new and amazing ways. We witnessed the magic of our craft shaping unique experiences for local businesses, making learning more exciting, and even streamlining global supply chains. All this, thanks to a single, powerful idea.
Gary Carse, the other driving force behind Carse & Waterman, sums it up perfectly: "Disney's words lit our path, inspiring us to go beyond just stories. We aimed to create a language of visuals that crosses boundaries, speaking straight to the heart of people."
Our dedication to local businesses took on fresh energy. With every animation we crafted, we brought ideas to life, shared knowledge, and sparked conversations. Teaming up with cool partners like Michelin, New Look, and the United Nations showed us just how universal animation's language is.
Our journey in Stoke-on-Trent keeps unfolding, each new project adding more colors to the canvas of possibilities. Walt Disney's quote isn't just a fancy phrase on our wall; it's what fuels our passion. We've come to realise that animation isn't just a way to make things look cool – it's a bridge, an inspiration, a transformation.
In our animation journey, Carse & Waterman are living proof of how one simple idea can create a big impact. Animation is more than a tool; it's a way to talk to the world, weaving us all together.
