Safety that Sticks: How we use visual storytelling to transform workplace health & safety

For over ten years, we've been privileged to partner with companies like South West Water, Viridor, Pennon, Sibelco, and Amec Foster Wheeler, playing a crucial role in their unwavering commitment to the health and safety of their staff nationwide. These are organizations where safety isn't just a policy; it's a deeply ingrained value, and we've been right there alongside them, crafting hundreds of hours of animated content designed to keep their teams safe and informed across their diverse operations.

Think about the environments these companies operate in. From the complexities of water treatment facilities to the dynamic settings of waste management, the unique challenges of quarry operations, the vast scope of engineering and project management, and the broader infrastructure of Pennon, the potential risks are significant and varied. Ensuring that every member of staff, and every visitor, understands and acts safely is paramount. That's where our collaboration has truly flourished.

Over the years, we've tackled a vast spectrum of critical safety topics through the power of animation. For example, one of the many videos we created for Sibelco, a UK-based quarry, about the dangers of fragile roofs, clearly illustrating the risks and safe procedures. For Amec Foster Wheeler, a major engineering and project management company, we developed animations on Working at Heights, highlighting crucial safety measures in a memorable way. While we can't share direct links publicly due to client confidentiality, these examples show the practical and specific safety challenges we've addressed through animation, alongside the ongoing work for South West Water, Viridor, and Pennon covering topics like Working at Height, Parking Safely, Working Aboard, and Working with Toxic Chemicals. If there's a potential risk, the chances are we've animated it.

Now, we understand that for some, the word "animation" might conjure images of light entertainment, perhaps even seeming at odds with the gravity of health and safety messaging. But it's precisely this perception that can be so dangerous. To dismiss animation as frivolous in this context is to underestimate its profound power as a communication tool.

In reality, animation is arguably the most effective way to convey complex information clearly and concisely. It allows us to break down intricate procedures into easily digestible visuals, making abstract concepts concrete and memorable. It transcends language barriers and learning styles, ensuring that crucial safety messages resonate with everyone.

This isn't about undermining the seriousness of health and safety with cartoons. Quite the opposite. It's about recognizing that these messages are too important to get wrong. By using animation, we're not diluting the importance; we're amplifying it. We're saying, "These guidelines are vital, and we're going to present them in a way that ensures you truly understand and remember them."

Our long-standing partnerships with our H&S clients are a testament to their forward-thinking approach to safety. They understand that engaging and accessible training is not a "nice-to-have" but a fundamental pillar of a safe working environment. By embracing the power of animation, they're not just ticking boxes; they're actively investing in a culture of safety, ensuring their staff are equipped with the knowledge and understanding to prevent accidents and return home safely every day.

We're incredibly proud to have played a part in their ongoing commitment to safety, and we look forward to continuing our work together, animating an even safer future for their teams across the country.
